Dozens of dogs are recuperating in Tulsa after being rescued from a Missouri commercial kennel. As NewsOn6.com anchor Margaret Stokes reports, rehabilitating these animals is no easy task.

Stokes visited the Small Animal Clinic where some of the dogs are recovering. She wanted to find out exactly what takes place after dogs are rescued from the only life they've known; that of a two by two cage.

Susannah is one dog on the road to recovery.  When the NewsOn6.com team arrived, they found her shaking on the examination table of Veterinarian David Russell.

Up until a few days ago, Susannah didn't have a name - only a number.  Susannah's teeth are rotting, her abdomen is inflamed and her ears are infected. Her life's purpose so far has been to produce puppies.

Small Paws Rescue Executive Director, Robin Pressnall, told NewsOn6.com that Susannah's condition is typical of a commercial kennel rescue dog.

So, what does the future hold for Susannah?

"To come from a cage to a cherished family member; that's our goal for each dog we rescue," said Robin Pressnall, with Small Paws Rescue.

After getting the medical treatment she needs, Susannah will have to be socialized. The best way to do that is by placing her in a foster home with a dog that is already socialized.

NewsOn6.com will follow Susannah through her entire recovery process.
