A Henryetta man has come forward to claim a million dollar jackpot. Retired National Guardsman James Nunn claimed the winning Hot Lotto ticket worth $2.1 million from the July 2 drawing. Nunn chose to take the cash option making his winnings $1.3 million.

Nunn is a native Oklahoman, but spent most of his life in California serving in the U.S. National Guard. Nunn ended his tour of duty in 1993 because of health reasons. He moved to Henryetta to be near family.

"I enjoyed the National Guard and the U.S. Veteran's Affairs has taken good care of me," said 49-year-old Nunn. "I never imagined I would win the Lottery but I've been wondering why I've had to deal with so many setbacks and maybe this is why."

Nunn is recovering from having his appendix removed but the surgery hasn't stopped him from shopping for a new house.

"I've already started looking at houses," he said. "I want to build a new home close to town with a pool. I've always wanted a swimming pool."

Nunn purchased his ticket at the 1st Street Shell at 101 W. Main in Henryetta. As the retailer of the winning ticket, the 1st Street Shell was awarded a $5,000 bonus check as part of the Oklahoma Lottery's retailer bonus program.

Net proceeds of all Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for Oklahoma education. More than $203 million has been contributed to education since November 2005.
