Tulsa Public Schools beefs up its police presence. The district's all-new police department is ready for business.
Chief Gary Rudick says six weeks ago, his headquarters was just a storage closet. He only has one detective on board right now, but the district wants to hire up to 15 officers. The police department will also screen the district's security staff.
"We'll have a greater hand in picking who those people are. We'll do some training with them, a little bit tighter screening, a little more accountability with those people so we can get a better service from them," said Tulsa Public Schools Police Chief Gary Rudick.
Along with officers, the police department will have counselors on call to help with student crises.
