A truck driver critically injured when part of a headstone was tossed from an overpass speaks out for the first time.  66-year-old Gerald Webb is home after weeks in the hospital.  He was hurt when a chunk of a headstone slammed into his windshield.  News On 6 anchor Craig Day reports Webb is fighting to recover from the near deadly ordeal.

The last thing Gerald Webb remembers was driving down Highway 412 near the Cherokee Turnpike just west of Locust Grove.  He regained consciousness in the hospital two weeks later.

"The doctor told my wife when she got to the hospital that they didn't know if I would make it or not," said Gerald Webb.

Webb lost a lot of blood and was left in critical condition with a broken arm and ribs and a collapsed lung when a 25 pound projectile tossed from an overpass slammed through the windshield of the truck he was driving.

"How could it happen?  Who would do something like that?" asked Gerald Webb.

Now at home, Webb lost 90% of the muscle use in his arm.  He goes to physical therapy three times each week, but it's still unclear whether he'll ever regain use of his arm.

"This world is full of meanness and hate.  And, it is getting worser, too," said Gerald Webb.

Webb credits his wife and God for his survival and the progress he's made, so far.

"I feel blessed.  I feel if it hadn't been for God I never would have made it.  I give Him praise for that," said Gerald Webb.

The great grandfather wants to one day go back to work again, although admits there are no guarantees that will happen.  While he knows recovery will be a long and trying process, he just hopes no one else ever has to experience what he's gone through.

"I don't have no hate for them or malice, but it's senseless," said Gerald Webb.
