There are new developments in the push to create a state-wide arts high school. The News On 6 first told you about an idea called the Oklahoma School for Visual and Performing Arts last February. Now, the school is one step closer to reality.

Oklahoma State University has agreed to sponsor the charter school. The school has to get the OK from the legislature to help shoulder some of the costs. It would be similar to how the Oklahoma School for Science and Mathematics is funded.

John Brock and David Downing tried to push the idea in the state legislature last year to no avail.

"Bad budget year last year, last session. That worked against us. That seems to be better ya' know for next year. At least that's what are thinking is so we're always optimistic," said David Downing.

If approved, the two-year residential school would enroll about 200 students and be located in Tulsa.
