Welcome To Major League Eating

Leave the manners at the door and forget the fancy three course meal, this is Major League Eating or MLE. It's not synonymous with the acronyms MLB, NFL and NBA, but has plenty of people stomaching the spectacle.

"I've always loved food, loved flavor and had a good discomfort for life in general," said professional eater Tim "Eater X" Janus. "I thought those three things are what you need to be a champion."

With nicknames like Eater X, The Black Widow and Humble Bob it's a cast of characters that make up these food forcing fellows.

This finger-licking fun can put a pretty penny in your pocket. This winner took home a $5,000 prize for bingeing on barbecue brisket.

"It's pretty awesome to make any money doing this," said Janus. "I came about in the trophy era when it was honor and pride and you got some hardware. Now to be making a living doing this it's pretty nice but certainly unexpected and unnecessary."

Stained t-shirt and all, "Humble" Bob Shoudt set a world record, eating nearly 35 sandwiches.

"I have to admit I'm a little full right now but it's probably how you feel after Thanksgiving dinner," said Humble Bob. "It's an uncomfortable feeling but the high of winning helps temper it a little bit but it's all good."
