Some call her a living legend and she is using her voice to empower young people who need guidance.  A play entitled Two Cousins Walking Through Faith begins on Tuesday, but News On 6 anchor Jennifer Loren reports Monday night could have been the cast and crew's most important performance.

Two Cousins Walking Through Faith is a play written by Mary Scott Hicks, the first cousin to Martin Luther King's wife, Coretta Scott King.

"Mrs. Scott Hicks is a living legend in our community and she should be celebrated," said director Lincoln Cochran.

Mrs. Scott Hicks has lived in Tulsa for the last 20 years.  She felt it was necessary to tell people about the hardships she endured, growing up during the Civil Rights era, and how her life was changed through her cousins.

"And this play consists of our lives of how we were and the things that we endured there in Marion, Alabama.  And, it was rough back in those days," said Mary Scott Hicks.

She's hoping that by telling their story of faith and education, she can change the stories of other people's lives before it's too late.

"I need to get it to the young, younger generation, that people have lived through this because some things they're never going to ever believe, unless I get it out now," said Mary Scott Hicks.

And, on their final night of rehearsals, Hicks and the cast hope to influence some lives they believe need it more than most.  They dedicated the show to the kids in the correctional program at the L.E. Rader Center.

"This is what the Rader kids got to know. Go to school, get your education, and then you can battle some of these things that you think you have to do," said Mary Scott Hicks.

It's a message volunteers with the Rader program believe could really hit home.

"My goodness if these people can go through what they did years ago, maybe your struggle isn't quite that hard. You can do this, too," said DeeAnn Paisley, Rader volunteer.

Two Cousins Walking Through Faith starts Tuesday night at the Jazz Depot in Tulsa and runs through Thursday.
