Bell And Keith Set Sights On General Election

Whether it's Karen Keith or Sally Bell, Tulsa County will have a new commissioner soon.  Republican challenger Sally Bell beat incumbent Randi Miller by more than 6,000 votes in Tuesday's primary.  Democrat Karen Keith ran unopposed.  News On 6 anchor Terry Hood reports both candidates said the large margin of victory means it's time for change.

Karen Keith spent the day meeting and greeting potential voters.  The former television news anchor now knows her opponent in the Tulsa County Commissioner race will be Sally Bell.

"So now, it's on to November and we've got a big job ahead of us," said Republican Sally Bell.

Both candidates are touting their experience, Bell as the former co-owner and Chief Financial Officer of Bell's Amusement Park.

"I do have a business background. I have extensive knowledge of the fairgrounds. I have dealt with the county as a vendor, so I have that experience that my opponent does not have," said Republican Sally Bell.

Meanwhile, Karen Keith points out her work for former Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune and the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce.

"I felt like it was just an incredible opportunity to instead of just thinking about what needed to be done, helping to make some things happen," said Democrat Karen Keith.

One of the biggest issues during the primary dealt with management at the fairgrounds.   Both Bell and Keith say more oversight is needed at 21st and Yale.  Keith says technology is one answer.

"That tracking has to be put in place so that we know what dollars are coming and what dollars are going away.  The tracking, I just think it's been a little bit on the loose over the years, to put it mildly," said Democrat Karen Keith.

Bell says those in charge need to be held accountable.

"I think people are tired of politicians. They're tired of people who say they are going to do something and they don't.  And the one thing I will do, if I say it, I'm going to do my very best to accomplish it," said Republican Sally Bell.

Sally Bell has also pledged she will not vote for a tax increase as county commissioner.  While Karen Keith says she would only support a tax increase if it has the support of the people in her district.
