Tulsa's child crisis unit is still looking into whether neglect, or possibly drugs, played a role in the death of an eight-week-old baby boy, who was killed by a puppy on July 28th. As if this story wasn't horrifying enough, News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports the affidavits contain explicit details of how two-month-old Zane Earles died.

Police say in the affidavit that the baby's grandfather and father left the house that morning and little Zane was placed in an infant swing and left there for two hours. The baby's grandmother was home, as was the baby's mother, Linzy Earles.

It says the baby's mother went back to her bedroom, which is about 65 to 85 feet away from the child and she went to sleep. It says "that during this period of time, Zane Earles was left unattended and a nine to 12 week old lab puppy that was left loose in the house ate the two month old victim."

Detectives asked a judge for two separate search warrants for the Earles' home.

The first one, allowed them to conduct a decibel sound test "to find out whether the infant's screams could have been heard while being eaten alive by the black lab puppy."

They also searched for body fluids that the animal may have tracked through the home after the attack.

The second warrant asked for blood and hair samples to be taken from Linzy Earles. The affidavit says she "has had history of drug abuse and she was just recently taken off juvenile probation on June 2nd for drug charges."

It says the those samples could determine if she was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics during the time the baby was left unattended and she was unable to wake up to hear her baby's screams before he died.

We do not know the results of the sound test inside the home and getting the drug test results back could take weeks.

The medical examiner has not listed a cause of death, because they're also waiting on toxicology results from the baby.

One officer said even if charges are filed in this case, the legal system can hardly do any more to this young mother, than this terrible death has already done.
