A big push is being made to get Oklahoma to spend more on educating our children. A petition drive for the Helping Oklahoma Public Education initiative is underway.

The goal is to collect 200,000 signatures to get the initiative on the November ballot.

The initiative would change the state's constitution to require lawmakers to spend at least as much per student as the regional average. That would mean increasing the budget by $1,500 for each student, or a total of $850 million.
