A fatal auto-pedestrian accident Thursday morning may have not been a simple accident. Broken Arrow Police say a man killed on the Broken Arrow Expressway near 71st Street may have actually committed suicide.

Police Major Mark Irwin says an investigation so far into the accident has revealed the unidentified deceased man made suicidal comments before he left his home and walked toward the highway.

The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. in westbound lanes of state Highway 51 just past Kenosha or 71st Street.

Police initially believed the Broken Arrow man was hit by a car while trying to wave down someone for help. The driver of the car told police she did not even see the man until the moment her vehicle hit him.

The driver was not hurt. The westbound lanes of the Broken Arrow Expressway were temporarily closed while emergency crews cleaned up the accident.

Police have since reopened the Broken Arrow Expressway.
