Fourth graders at Union's Jarman Elementary are competing in the Metric Olympics, all in the name of math and science. Teachers thought it would be a good way to tie a few lessons in with the summer games in Beijing.

"Not only are they learning about the metric system, they learning how to work as a team.  And that's extremely important life skill that we try to teach throughout the year," said Jarmin Elementary School Teacher Beth Turner.

Some of Friday's events included the paper discuss, the straw javelin, the right-handed marble grab and the cotton ball shotput.
