The selection of Joe Biden comes as good news for some Tulsa democrats. The News On 6's Dan Bewley reports experience, knowledge, and honesty; those are the words local democrats use to describe Joe Biden. They say the Delaware senator was the best possible choice for vice-president.

Just as Barack Obama was introducing Joe Biden as his running mate. Tulsans For Obama were gearing up for another voter registration drive at a local block party and cheering Obama's choice.

"I think he's a great pick," said Aimee Nguyen.

Obama supporters in Tulsa say Joe Biden's knowledge of foreign policy and national security make him a perfect vice-president. They also tout his experience, more than 30 years in the Senate.

"He knows the ends and outs of Congress, he knows how to get things done, and I think he and Obama are pretty much of like minds," said David Carr.

Critics of Joe Biden point to statements he made while he was still in presidential race. Specifically comments that Barack Obama is not ready to lead the country. But supporters say that's old news.

"That was a year ago, that was 2007," said Stan Young.

"I don't think he would have taken this position if he didn't think Barack Obama was ready to be president," said Nguyen.

But republicans say it doesn't really matter who Obama's vice-presidential candidate is in Oklahoma.

"The only thing we might have worried about was going and getting Hillary Clinton again. She's still got Arkansas connections, might do very well in the eastern part of the state, or somebody from Texas. But Biden being from Delaware pretty much means it's going to be a slam dunk for McCain in Oklahoma," said Chris Medlock of the Tulsa County Republicans.

But the news on Saturday has democrats optimistic and hoping it leads to change in Washington.

"Hopefully, I think, we're going to see some honest government and I think we need that for a change," said Carr.

Obama supporters say their goal now is to get more people registered to vote; that includes a big drive next weekend in North Tulsa.
