TULSA, OK -- This is the 50th year of The Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society. They meet to discuss and show their beautiful collections but stay for another reason.

"I think the camaraderie drew me in the first place," said longtime member Kay Atkinson.  "We go together and take vacation weekends. We've travelled out to west Texas, we've gone to Roswell, New Mexico, and we've been to Colorado and Northwestern Nebraska."

Gene Cockrell, the host for the meeting, had a backyard full of rocks he has collected from across the country.

"These two are about 200 million years old, this one's about 140 million years old.  It's out of Morrison Formation in Utah," said Gene Cockrell.  "Sometimes I wish I collected postage stamps instead of rocks, as you can see some of them are kind of big."

If you appreciate the beauty of rocks, minerals and products of the lapidary arts, visit the upcoming Gem Show or join the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society for one of their monthly meetings.
