TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa man returned home on Thursday to brighten the lives of young children.

Kevin Knotts and his wife, Kim Wayans, read to kids at the Laura Dester Shelter from their books. The two wrote the "Amy Hodgepodge" series about a young, multi-racial girl growing up in today's world.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office donated the whole series to the shelter. Children living there were taken from their parents because of abuse, neglect or abandonment.

"These kids stories, it's tough, so anything we can do to, you know," said Kevin Knotts.

"To put a smile on their face and try to lighten things. You know, we feel very blessed to be able to come here and do that," said Kim Wayans.

Kevin and Kim will have another book reading on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Borders at 21st and the Broken Arrow Expressway.
