Bixby's coach is beaming. The Spartans have a solid record and are poised for the playoffs. It's just that time of the year.

"If you're a senior your games are numbered," Pat McGrew said. "It's a special time and it's great to be around them and a lot of kids have risen to the occasion."

McGrew is also savoring his final season coaching his son, Tyler. It's a unique bond between father and son, coach and player.

"Sometimes you're a little hard on him," Pat McGrew said. "The thing anyone can say about Tyler is he's earned everything he's gotten. He's done it on his own. I've just been here to watch it and enjoy it."

Pat and Tyler may not always see eye-to-eye, but it usually ends with both of them smiling from ear-to-ear.

"That's just a coach and player thing," said Tyler McGrew. "He likes to get on me a little harder just because I'm the son."

"We still get mad at each other every once in a while," Pat McGrew said. "But when the game's over, we're hugging and enjoying it."

For now, they'll have at least four more weeks to be coach and player before its father and son for good.

"Right now his mother and I have a tough time with it, but we know he's going to grow. We've been very proud of him," Pat McGrew said.

"It's been a lot of fun," Tyler McGrew said. "I've been able to grow up with him through Bixby and I really enjoy it."
