CHECOTAH, OK -- Chris Carr wasn't supposed to lead 3A in scoring. The Checotah Wildcats weren't supposed to be undefeated. It's the simple spoken words that sum up a player and his team's season.

"It's a blessing to be able to do that right now," Carr said.

A year ago at this time, Carr stood on the sidelines. A hard hit in a pre-season scrimmage resulted in a blood clot in his stomach, ending his season.

"It wasn't a football ending deal, it was life threatening - it was scary," Turley said. "Just him to have the attitude he had and his work ethic and just to play and work as hard as he does, it's just incredible."

Carr's courageous come back has been easy to stomach.  He has 28 touchdowns and more than 1,300 yards rushing in the first full season of football he's ever played.

"I was a little nervous at first but I wanted to be a part of this team," Carr said.

"When he had gotten hurt I had my doubts as to whether he'd ever play again," Turley said. "My amazement is not only he came back but the fact that he just slams it up in there so hard."

Carr's also been the driving force behind a team that hasn't won a district championship since the 1940's.

"This is that time of year where that pressure starts to build," Turley said. "The expectations around here right now are sky high."

"This is what we all dream of right here is to go 9-0 and finish the season off 10-0 and finish the regular season off," Carr said.
