TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa Fire Department responded to a house fire just after 10:30 Tuesday morning at 2112 North Frankfort Avenue.

Firefighters say when they arrived, more than 50% of the single-story home was on fire. Two people who live there were out of the home. They were not injured.

Firefighters rescued 10 pit bull puppies. Some required oxygen via pet masks, but they are recovering.

A resident of the home told crews she was preparing to cook french fries and left the home to return something to her neighbor. When she returned, smoke filled the kitchen.

Firefighters say in an attempt to vent the smoke, she opened two doors adding fresh air to the fire.

The Tulsa Fire Department says people should never leave the kitchen while cooking.

Cooking fires have resulted in the loss of two apartment buildings and the death of a 28-year-old woman since July.
