AUBURN, AL -- Gus Malzahn has been named the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn University.

Head coach Gene Chizik made the announcement Sunday afternoon, calling Malzahn one of the "great offensive minds in college football."

Malzahn served as assistant head coach, co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the University of Tulsa during the past two seasons.

In that time his offenses were ranked first nationally in total offense in 2007 and second in 2008. Malzahn was the offensive coordinator and receivers coach at Arkansas in 2006.

The Fort Smith, Ark., native will join the Auburn staff after Tulsa's GMAC Bowl game versus Ball State on Jan. 6 in Mobile.
