New License Plates Ready For Wider Distribution

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma's new license plates are about to become much more common on the state's roads.

Tag agencies across the state will begin issuing the redesigned license plates Friday, replacing the green-and-white tags that have been around for 20 years.

The new tags have "Oklahoma" spelled out at the top in letters bordered in gold. At the bottom is a narrow blue band with the words "Native America" printed in pearl white.

The Osage Nation shield that was displayed in the middle of the old tags moves to the bottom right corner.

The new license plates already made their debut with some motorists whose tags expire in January, but should begin proliferating this month.
