Cherokees Give Out Free Radon Test Kit

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) -- People living inside the Cherokee Nation's boundaries can receive a free kit to test for the odorless gas radon this month.

The Tahlequah-based tribe is working with the Environmental Protection Agency to give out the kits as part of National Radon Action Month.

Radon, which can cause lung cancer, is difficult to detect because it is odorless, tasteless and colorless. According to the EPA, it is the second-leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking.

The Cherokee Nation covers all or part of 14 northeastern Oklahoma counties.
