ORU Women's Basketball Loses To Oakland

TULSA, OK - The Oral Roberts women's basketball team took its first home loss of the season against Summit League foe Oakland, 48-62, Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Center.

ORU falls to 8-7 on the year and 1-3 in conference action, while OU improves to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in league play. The Golden Eagles are now 16-11 all-time against the Golden Grizzlies.

Freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) led ORU with a game-high 16 points, while senior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) continues her double-digit scoring streak to 15 games this season, scoring 14 points. Freshman forward Jordan Pyle (Mustang, Okla.) tied her career-high in rebounds with 10, as senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) pulled down nine boards and Voelker added six.

Voelker started the Golden Eagles scoring on the right foot with a jumper at 18:08 for the first score of the game. A Jones layup at 17:31 kept ORU up 4-2 before Oakland responded with a 10-0 run to take a 12-4 lead with 14:04 remaining in the first half. Voelker ended a three-minute ORU scoring drought on a jumper at 13:04 and a three-pointer from Voelker brought the Golden Eagles to within three points, 16-19, with 6:09 left to play. Jones scored the last six points for ORU in the first half, as Oakland took a 25-23 lead heading into the break.

Freshman forward Cristal Turner (Maidstone, England) gave the Golden Eagles its only lead in the second half with a three-pointer at the 19-minute mark. Oakland took a 16-3 run to retake a 41-29 lead with 10:59 remaining. A Voelker jumper ended a six minute scoring drought at 10:14 but ORU continued its shooting woes and got no closer than eight points the rest of the game.

The Golden Eagles were held to a season-low 22.7% (15-66) from the field, including 24.1% (7-29) from behind the arc and 84.6 (11-13) from the free throw line.

Oakland out-rebounded ORU, 48-42, as the Golden Grizzlies scored 19 points off the bench compared to the Golden Eagles 4.

OU shot 38.3% (23-60) from the field, including 33.3% (4-12) from three-point range and 80.0% (12-15) from the charity stripe.

ORU continues league action on Monday, January 12, hosting IPFW at 7:05 p.m. in the Mabee Center.
