TULSA, OK -- The U.S. Census Bureau is about to put out the "Now Hiring" sign in Tulsa. The bureau opened the Tulsa Census offices on Monday.

Organizers say at peak operational times, the offices will employ approximately 1,000 people.

"Most of them will be working as census takers. They'll be out in their own community, in their own neighborhood, finding out and making sure we have everyone's address listed and having it listed correctly, making sure that we have everybody that's available to be counted," said Joseph Goodman, Local Census Bureau.

Goodman says the bureau will start hiring supervisors in the next few weeks. They hope to have a full staff hired by March.

The Census Bureau urges anyone interested in applying for a job to call the Recruiting Office at 1-866-861-2010 or visit the Census Bureau website.
