TULSA, OK -- A broken fire hydrant in downtown Tulsa put on quite a display Tuesday morning.

The hydrant, located near 2nd and Guthrie near the BOK Center, is fed by a 12-inch line.

A spokesperson for the city of Tulsa says the hydrant must have been broken by some kind of large vehicle, because a smaller vehicle, like a car, would have been so badly damaged it couldn't have left the scene.

The city says the broken hydrant was an older style which lacked a modern feature that prevents a large water loss in the event of a break.

This break caused a geyser of water that reached heights of 30 feet.

The old hydrant will be replaced by a new model that does have the safety feature.
