TULSA, OK -- A portion of eastbound Interstate-44 in Tulsa were shut down for about 9 hours Friday because of an overnight accident.

A semi-truck hit a bridge at I-44 and Darlington. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident happened just before 1 a.m. Friday.

SKYNEWS 6 flys over the accident scene on I-44.

Troopers say the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel just before the accident. The semi lost control and wrecked, spilling diesel fuel all over the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Tulsa Fire's hazmat crews had to be called in to clean up the mess.

Watch as crews investigate the accident.

The OHP says all eastbound traffic on I-44 at the accident scene was re-routed onto Skelly Driver between Yale and Sheridan to make clean up of the accident safer for emergency crews.

Troopers say the driver of the semi was not hurt.
