Street Cats Finds Homes for Forgotten Felines

There's plenty of love here for these furry friends. There's plenty of love here for these furry friends.
This beats going through garbage. This beats going through garbage.
Tucker is happy because he was adopted! Tucker is happy because he was adopted!

By Chris Howell,

Tulsa--Ever since Street Cats opened its doors, the volunteers there have been on a mission.

"To help cats that didn't have homes, that people were finding in their backyards, on the streets in neighborhoods. We ask them to put up a picture here on our bulletin board of pets needing homes, then as we adopt out a cat we'll bring a new cat in and we'll use this board as a waiting list," said Linda Holland, a Street Cats volunteer.

The cats are given veterinary exams to insure good health and are spayed or neutered, then they are placed in foster homes for a week or two to be socialized. One of the loveable street cats waiting for a forever home is Tucker.

"Tucker was rescued by a volunteer and it was obvious that he had a little problem in that his mouth is kind of crooked," Holland said.  "The vet said probably he'd been hit by a car. He'd gotten his jaw broken and it had never been treated. He ended up with one tooth sticking out and has kind of a unique look to his face. Some people think he's adorable and other people would shy away from him."

Tucker isn't the cutest cat that Street Cats has up for adoption, and his chances for adoption were slim. But Streets Cats is a no-kill shelter and he could always stay here with the other kitties.  He's well cared for and has plenty of feline friends. But just this week something wonderful happened.

‘A volunteer brought in a friend of hers that was looking for a cat, and he came in and spent about an hour visiting all the cats and then he chose Tucker," said Holland.

If you would like to help Street Cats find homes for cats like Tucker, visit their web site where you can donate money, time or supplies. You can also sign up for their fundraising event , My Furry Valentine, to be held Sunday, February 8th.

Street Cats is located at 6520 E. 60th Street in Tulsa.
