UNDATED - The American Red Cross continues efforts to ensure that anyone who is without power has a place to stay. The Red Cross has six shelters that are open to the public.

  • NEW: In Cookson: Cookson Community Center, 31521 S. 540 Road. It will open at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. This is a partnership with the Cherokee Nation. The Red Cross is providing volunteers and food. The Cherokee Nation is providing cots and blankets.
  • The Checotah shelter had no residents last night and has shut down. Those volunteers are being sent to Tahlequah.
  • In Stilwell: First Baptist Church, 801 W. Hickory. About 1,000 homes are without power in Stilwell.
  • In Muskogee: First United Methodist Church, 600 E. Okmulgee. Overnight stay was 12.
  • In Westville (Adair County): Assembly of God, Hwy. 62 East. Overnight stay was 18.
  • In Tahlequah: First United Methodist Church, 300 W. Delaware. Overnight stay was 46.

The Medical Reserve Corps will be sending nurses twice a day to each Red Cross shelter to do a walk-through and check on residents.

Nellie Kelly, Director of Public Relations for the American Red Cross Tulsa Area Chapter says the Red Cross is in dire need of blood. A special drive has been scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Dillard's court in Woodland Hills Mall.

The Red Cross anticipates the sheltering operation will cost $92,000, which covers supplies, food, cots and transportation. 53 Red Cross workers are in the EOC and at shelters.
