Pro-Life Rally At Oklahoma Capitol

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)  -- Anti-abortion advocates are distributing bouquets of red roses to lawmakers at the state Capitol during their Rose Day event.

The annual observance is designed to focus attention on abortion and urge lawmakers to support anti-abortion legislation.

The Legislature has adopted a variety of anti-abortion measures in recent years that restrict a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy. That right was affirmed in the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973.

This year, anti-abortion advocates are promoting an abortion-reporting bill that would measure the prevalence of abortion in Oklahoma, the reasons abortions are sought and the complications that result.

The measure would also monitor compliance with existing abortion statutes and will prohibit abortions performed for the purpose of sex selection.
