TULSA, OK -- A South Tulsa park has officially gone to the dogs. Work is being done to convert part of Hunter Park into Biscuit Acres, Tulsa's second bark park.

There's still a lot of work to be done, but the outline of the park, located at 5804 East 91 Street, is taking shape.

On Saturday, the Rotary Club showed off the site to dozens of dog owners.

Dog owners say they need it more than ever.

"These dogs are such an important part of our lives. They're like our children," said Jennifer Hughes, dog owner.

The Southside Rotary Club has been working on securing the site and $50,000 in donations for almost a year. The Parks Department has signed off on Biscuit Acres.

Dozens of dogs - big, small, young and old, came to check out the new park.

The park will open its dog gates in May. Owners say it's about time. The only other dog park in the city is more than half an hour away.

"I like the dog park idea because it's fenced in, you don't have to worry about the dog running off and it's an open place to play with them," said Jason Westemeir, South Tulsa resident.

As members of the Rotary Club, Jennifer Hughes helped shape the park.

"I would think it's a chance for people to come together, bring their dogs in and meet new people," said Hughes.

The only thing the bark park will affect is the 18th hole of the frisbee golf course, but the Rotary Club says the Parks Department will move the hole and the extra 50 parking spaces should make up for the inconvenience.
