OWASSO, OK - The investigation continues into the death of an Owasso teenager who was died after being struck by three vehicles as he tried to cross Highway 169.  It happened between 76th Street North and 86th Streets North.

Owasso Police say 14-year-old Jesse Goering of Owasso was killed on Sunday night as he tried to cross Highway 169. All three drivers have reported to police, including the driver of a silver Porsche who says he didn't realize he had struck a person.

The speed limit on Highway 169 is 65 miles an hour. Cars and trucks whiz by. There are no sidewalks and no pedestrian bridges.  Owasso Police aren't quite sure why the 14 year old attempted to cross the busy highway on foot.

"Where he was going, I actually haven't gotten that from the investigators. He was traveling with another friend," said Owasso Police Chief Dan Yancey.  "I think the friend was ahead of the victim."

The accident happened around 7 p.m. on Sunday not far from Goering's home which backs up to the highway.  Jesse was wearing dark clothing, though police say that doesn't matter.

"When somebody crosses the road there is no way for a driver to see something dart out in traffic, so even if they were wearing light colored clothes, I don't know if they would have time to stop if somebody was trying to cross the highway," said Owasso Police Chief Dan Yancey.

The teen was struck by three cars. Two of which stayed on the scene. Police were looking for the third vehicle which was a silver Porsche.

"The third vehicle, at the time, the individual claimed that he had no idea what he hit. He just thought he hit a board, continued on, and then came back this morning after he saw reports that we were looking for his vehicle," said Owasso Police Chief Dan Yancey.

The friend traveling across the highway with Jesse was not harmed. As of right now, it doesn't appear anybody will be charged.

"The individuals that were crossing the road actually were in violation of the law," said Owasso Police Chief Dan Yancey.  "Crossing any highway or any road, you take a risk especially when the vehicles are travelling 65-70 miles an hour."

The Owasso Police chief says they have no reason to believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.  They don't anticipate toxicology tests to say otherwise.

The News On 6 attempted to reach Goering's father, who is a single parent, but he was unavailable. We were told he may have been out of town on Sunday night when the accident happened.
