WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Layoff notices go out to Cessna workers in Wichita as the company seeks to slash 4,600 jobs companywide.

The 60-day notices were distributed Thursday.

Cessna did not release the specific number of workers who received notices. But several media outlets in Wichita reported that 600 to 800 workers were learning that they will soon be unemployed.

The company announced late last month that the 4,600 layoffs are expected to be completed by the end of March, with the company's headquarters in Wichita losing about a third of its work force.

At the time of the announcement, Cessna employed about 15,000 people worldwide.

No word if the layoffs will impact the Cessna facility in Independence, Kansas.
