OKLAHOMA CITY -- He tipped the scales at more than 330 pounds and when he tried to join the military, he was rejected for being too obese. Yet, Zach Porter didn't let go of his dream to be a marine.
Serving in the military is a family tradition for Porter, but his weight stopped him from living out his life's mission. But, he's now gone through a transformation you have to see to believe.
"It's just embarrassing to remember that I was that big," Porter said.
Porter was overweight and miserable back in September of 2007.
"I'd say pre hypertension, pretty close to heart problems, pretty close to diabetes," Porter said. "I didn't go to any doctors because I knew that's exactly what they would tell me."
Pam Fahey is the owner of Platinum Wellness Center in Oklahoma City. When Porter asked for her help to lose weight, she immediately started him on Isagenix, a nutritional cleansing program.
"When you flood the body with the right nutrients, then you help the fat cells and all the cells the body releases and the toxins that they've been holding hostage for a long time, it's amazing, weight tends to fall off," Fahey said.
Just four months later, Porter had lost 100 pounds.
"For a good year I went into the recruiting office and they kept turning me down because I had exceeded the weight standard," he said.
Yet his weight loss was enough. Porter was accepted into the Marines. He was on his way of fulfilling his dream.
"Pretty much everything the commercial said, honor, courage and commitment," Porter said.
He has now lost a total of 150 pounds and says he's gone from a junk food guy to a health food nut.
"So, we're very excited for his, Zach's, dream come true and that he's going to be able to serve his country," Fahey said.
Porter will be honored for his weight loss Thursday night at an Isagenix event. It's being held at MetroTech at 7 p.m.
