Man Dies After Possible Meth Lab Fire

TULSA, OK -- A man has died after being injured in a possible meth lab fire at a Tulsa apartment complex early Tuesday.

Armando Nunez, 35, died Wednesday night, Fire Capt. Michael Baker said. His death is the first fire fatality of the year.

The blaze started about 4 a.m. at the Royal Arms Apartments in the 5100 block of South Norfolk Avenue.

Maria Martinez, 39, is in critical condition with burn injuries at Hillcrest Medical Center. Nikki Cain, 55, is in critical condition with respiratory and burn injuries at Oklahoma City's Baptist Medical Center.

Family members requested the fourth victim's name not be released. After granting an open-records request, Baker identified the victim as Mark Roberts, who is in critical condition at Hillcrest Medical Center. His age is unknown.

Cain was rescued from her bedroom and stayed on the phone with a 911 dispatcher while waiting for firefighters.

Dispatcher: Get as far away from the bedroom door as you can.
Caller: Yes, sir. Please hurry.
Dispatcher: Get a blanket and put it around yourself.
Caller: I'm scared.
Dispatcher: I know. We're on the way, honey.

Eight units were destroyed. Four upstairs apartment units were gutted and four downstairs apartment units sustained heavy smoke and water damage from the fire.

The fire caused more than $300,000 in damage.
