TULSA, OK -- Tulsa Police are working on putting Tulsa's fiercest criminals in jail. About 30 days ago, Tulsa officers began a violent crimes initiative, taking four officers out of patrol and assigned them to the fugitive/warrants squad to go after the city's worst law breakers.
So far, they've arrested 51 people, responsible for 500 crimes including murder, robbery and burglary.
In the past, when a case comes in, a detective works that case. But, this approach is different. Detectives figured out which criminals were committing the most crimes and went after them.
"We figured that a small percentage of our criminals are doing a huge percentage of our crimes, so we're taking resources and going after those criminals," said Tulsa Police Deputy Chief Mark McCrory.
Those 51 people have been arrested a total of 165 times in the past three years.
