TULSA, Oklahoma – The Tulsa Drillers used strong pitching and one big inning to take down the Frisco RoughRiders 4-1 Sunday.

The Drillers (23-31) started the scoring in the third inning, when Charles Blackmon and Bronson Sardinha connected on back-to-back RBI doubles. Sardinha later scored on an RBI single by Daniel Mayora to give Tulsa a 3-0 lead, and that was all starting pitcher Brandon Durden would need.

Durden gave up two hits and a walk in the first two innings of the game, then did not allow another base runner for the rest of the day. He retired the final 20 batters he faced in order, and left after the eighth inning.

Tulsa added one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, when Sardinha launched his first home run of the season. Scott Rice pitched the final inning and gave up Frisco’s only run of the game on an RBI single by Taylor Teagarden.

The Drillers have now won three times in June and relied on their pitching each time. In those three games, the surrendered a total of just two runs. Tulsa has now split the first two games of its series with Frisco, which will conclude at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
