TULSA, OK -- Tulsa's American Airlines maintenance base is giving a helping hand to mechanics-in-training in Puerto Rico.

The airline donated an MD-80 to the vo-tech program that graduates the majority of American's mechanics in San Juan.

The general manager for American Airlines' Tulsa  maintenance base, Paul Creider, said they see the retired plane as a tool to help prepare their potential future employees.

"We have employees at San Juan and graduates from the school at work here in Tulsa and along with Alliance, Fort Worth, our base in Texas," Creider said.

Creider also talked to the News On 6 about other donations the company has made to the school and how the company is fairing in this economy.
