Fast-Moving Fire Challenges Owasso Firefighters

OWASSO, OK -- Fast-moving flames challenged the Owasso Fire Department when firefighters battled a house fire in Rogers County east of town Tuesday morning.

The three residents of the home were able to escape uninjured.   The home is located at 17602 East 77th Street North. 

Owasso Fire Chief Brad Clark told The News On 6 firefighters knew the house was in an area that does not have hydrants, so they made sure to bring plenty of water with them.

That included their own tanker, as well as a tanker from the Limestone Fire Protection District and one from the Oklahoma Air National Guard.

Chief Clark said firefighters ran more than 700 feet of hose to a hydrant at the Limestone Fire Station just to make sure they didn't run out.

The chief said the biggest problem they faced was the fast-moving flames, which he said had already consumed much of the house by the time fire crews arrived, less than six minutes after the first 911 call.

The fire apparently started in the home's attic, but firefighters say they don't know the cause.

The family's dog, a cat and 6 kittens died in the fire.
