TULSA, OK -- One man is dead and another is injured after shots were exchanged Tuesday afternoon across the street from a Tulsa elementary school.

Tulsa Police are searching for a person of interest in what is Tulsa’s 57th homicide of the year. They’re looking for 19-year-old Cedric Jackson.

Police say an investigation revealed that Jackson was present during the shooting. Jackson should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.

Officers say Jackson could be headed to Slick, Oklahoma in a 4-door Red Ford Escort with Oklahoma license plate: 075-BOD.

Police are working two crime scenes.

The first scene is 4800 North Yorktown Place. The victim there was a 31-year-old man who was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to EMSA Spokeswoman Tina Wells. Police say he died at the hospital.

The second scene is 5200 North Peoria. The victim there is a 26-year-old man. He was transported in serious condition, Wells said.

The 31-year-old male victim was shot in a driveway at 4800 North Yorktown Place. It's not his home, but it's where he and two other people exchanged gunfire.

"Both shooting victims were in the driveway of the residence here. One was able to get in the car, the other succumbed to his wounds," said Sgt. Brian Hill, Tulsa Police.

The victim who survived was the passenger in a gray Durango. Police pulled it over near 52nd and Peoria, arrested the driver and took the wounded passenger to the hospital.

TPD says the shooting not only took place in broad daylight, but across the street from William Penn Elementary School. Witnesses say children had just been let out of class.

"I came and looked outside, and there were some children running back into the school screaming. I heard someone yell, ‘get in here,’ and shortly after that EMSA showed up," said Joe Picorale, a witness.

Investigators aren't sure what sparked the confrontation or why it happened in someone's driveway. But considering the location of the shooting, they say it's fortunate more people were not hurt.

"We certainly had a tragedy here. We avoided another tragedy by having no children hurt when they were directly in the line of fire," said Sgt. Hill.

Police say the homeowner was inside at the time of the shooting, but did not know the victim.

In 2008, Tulsa had a total of 57 homicides.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS.
