TULSA, OK -- For many of us, "turn up the heat" will be common phrase over the next couple of days.

Oklahoma Natural Gas says in a news release, as frigid weather settles over Oklahoma, ONG is forecasting that its customers will use near-record amounts of natural gas in the next few days.

With that in mind, ONG is suggesting some ways to lessen the impact on our budgets.

In that news release, ONG customers can reduce the impact of the weather on their bills by taking advantage of a program that spreads the cost of their natural gas service over a 12-month period. [ONG's Average Payment Plan]

Oklahoma Natural Gas projects that its customers will use more than 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas during the 24-hour period from Thursday morning until Friday morning.

ONG says since the Christmas Eve 2009 blizzard that began the protracted cold weather, daily natural gas volumes have exceeded 1 billion cubic feet each day except one.

ONG also says customers can conserve energy and save money by making sure heaters are properly adjusted and running with clean filters.

Adding weather-stripping and sealing windows and doors.

Lowering the thermostat at night or at other times while wearing additional layers of clothing and sealing off unused rooms.

ONG warns stoves and ovens should never be used for home heating.
