What Is Hiding In The Attic?

TULSA, OK -- You just never know what you'll find in the attic of a new house.  A Tulsa woman found a craft project from years ago, an old card table covered with vintage matchbooks from all over the country.

"So I just crawled up and started cleaning up the garage, and started throwing stuff down on the floor."

Pam Pace and I are in the garage of the house she bought last summer, she's showing me the little opening in the attic where she found her little attic treasure.

"I almost tossed it, I happened to see the little matchbook covers," Pace said.

The matchbook covers were glued to the top of this very old card table.

There are 147 of them. She cataloged them in a typewritten list. She is a librarian by training.

"These are called girlies I researched matchbook covers. There are several of these," Pace said pointing to a matchbook with a 1950s-style-pin-up girl drawn on the front.

There are so many of these from places all over the country, obviously the person who collected these was well traveled.

There is one from a local insurance company that's still in business.

103 West 4th, if you look at the phone number you can tell; it is 4-4173. I wonder when phone numbers changed.

Some of these date back to World War II, advertising war bonds and victory.

There's another Girlie

"Everyone who comes over does just what you are doing. Everybody just hovers over it," Pace said.

How could they not, it's fascinating. I wonder who did this and when and why was it in the attic and not out somewhere where visitors could see it, I wonder.

Pam has some favorites, "Probably the republic pictures the studio. I think that's Hollywood, north Hollywood, I think this is a picture of it."

She is hoping someone else will be fond of all these too. She plans to sell it on eBay, the beginning of her home improvement fund.
