COWETA, OK -- There is quite a cleanup ahead for a Green Country bank and a school – and quite a coincidence after two separate wrecks caused damage there.

It started out as a routine day Wednesday at the First National Bank of Coweta, but suddenly a pickup crashed through the building. It's believed that the driver hit the gas instead of the brake.

The bank is secure and remains open. Construction crews should have it repaired in a couple of days.

At least something like that doesn't happen very often. But wait a minute, this was actually the second car to hit a building in Coweta on the same day.

Just a few hours earlier, a car hit the back of the Coweta Intermediate High School, punching through the block wall outside, and the steel and drywall inside.

"At any other time, in any other part of the building there are children everywhere, and we are very fortunate that no one was hurt here," said Principal Leslie Frazier.

The damage was limited to a store room, but it was scary for the ladies in the lunch room next door.

"It sounded like a bomb," said cafeteria worker Lori Sanders.

"I screamed because it was just so loud, we didn't know what it was," said lunch lady Fran Russell.

A Bad Day For Coweta Buildings

Principal Leslie Frazier's first thought was the safety of her students. Nine years ago her daughter was hurt when a car slammed through their church.

"Vanessa was trapped under the car, and had about 80 stitches, and recovered fully, but this did bring back a lot of memories from that," said Coweta Intermediate High School Principal Leslie Frazier.

Frazier says thankfully in these incidents, no one was seriously hurt - and she says sometimes accidents just happen.

It just made for an out of the ordinary day in Coweta.

Insurance adjustors are doing their work at both the bank and the school, so there aren't any damage estimates available yet.
