TULSA, OK -- Oral Roberts University challenged its students Friday to help the relief efforts in Haiti. The school's president told students it was their one chance to text during chapel - if they texted to the Red Cross's drive.
President Mark Rutland felt it was the easiest ways for students to get involved.
"It will be billed to your phone, so there's no extra thing you have to do," Rutland told students. "If you have your dad's phone, just keep calling. Haiti needs more help than he does."
The university also took up an offering during chapel to help with the effort.
To donate $10 to the Red Cross, text "Haiti" to 90999.
ORU officials say that 478 students stood up to text during the event and additional $5,100 was raised by offerings during the event.
ORU officials estimated $10,000 was raised during the event.
