SAPULPA, OK -- The economy in crisis is prompting layoff notices in Sapulpa.

Sapulpa Police Chief Rick Rumsey says notices have started to go out to city employees regarding the possibility of layoffs within the city of Sapulpa.

The 30-day warnings started going out Tuesday to city employees, including police officers.

Chief Rumsey says the city is facing the same problems all other cities are facing and has to take action regarding all contingencies.

Chief Rumsey says the city manager and others are negotiating with city employees regarding layoffs to try to avoid them. The notices have started and will continue until all affected employees are notified regarding the possibility of a layoff situation, according to Chief Rumsey.

Chief Rumsey didn't confirm the number of employees that would be affected.
