California Man Pleads Guilty To Opium Trafficking In NE Oklahoma

TULSA, OK -- A 25-year-old California man has pleaded guilty in federal court in Tulsa to trafficking in opium. 

During a hearing Tuesday morning, Wang Chong Khang, of Oroville, California, pleaded guilty to Possession of Opium with Intent to Distribute.

In court, Khang admitted that in November of last year, he picked up a package at the Post Office in Colcord that had been shipped from Laos.

The package originally contained approximately 13 pounds of pure opium hidden among the contents, which was detected in shipment by inspectors.

Khang admitted that he intended to distribute the opium to other individuals. 

Khang, who also lists a Jay, Oklahoma address, faces a June 8 sentencing date. 

The U.S. Attorney's office in Tulsa says Khang faces up to 20 years in a federal prison and a fine of up to $1 million.
