TULSA COUNTY -- Green Country firefighters are still monitoring parts of western Tulsa County after two large grass fires broke out Sunday afternoon.

The Sand Springs Fire Department said Monday morning, the fires were out but they have a crew monitoring just in case.

Sand Springs and Keystone Fire Departments responded to the grassfires in west Tulsa County Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters say with the return of warmer weather, fire season has just sparked.

The fires were in the area of 193rd West Avenue and 35th Street.

"We thought we had a pretty good handle on it a couple of hours ago and the wind and weather conditions just took it away from us," said Mike Wood, Sand Springs Fire Department.

Officials say several structures were threatened by the flames, but firefighters worked to protect those structures.

They say the fire and the smoke have died down, but fire season is just igniting.

"We just started our springtime grassfire season. Have everybody out there be careful because the last two days, it's really kicked up," said Wood.
