CLAREMORE, OK -- Our warm weather means spring flowers are popping up. Every gardener knows those pretty blooms don't come without some hard work and elbow grease.

The News On 6 spoke with a woman in Claremore who says working in her garden is more than just planting seeds, it's going to help people.

"I have a passion for helping people and I have a passion for gardening, so this whole idea developed from a combination of those two passions in my life," said Lacey Shirley of Blue Starr Community Garden.

Anyone can sign up for a plot and plant whatever they want at the Blue Starr Community Garden. In exchange, gardeners donate 10 percent of what they grow to a food bank.

If you have a green thumb and want to get involved, e-mail Blue Starr Community Garden.
