TULSA, OK -- How often have you thought something might make a great book, and then never followed through?

A Tulsa woman can now say her story about Debbie the Duck who thought she was a dog, has made a great book.

Ronda Gaynor's new book is called "Debbie the Duck." It's a children's book based on a true story.

Debbie came home as a pet and quickly adopted the family dogs as her family.

Wherever Gaynor's dog, Lady, went, there would be Debbie -- kind of like mother and daughter. Debbie thought she was a dog.

Gaynor wrote the book and her 12-year-old nephew did some illustrations to accompany the story and they entered it in a Tulsa Public Library writing contest. They didn't win, but maybe Gaynor did in the long run because she was so encouraged by the response to the story, she pressed on and found a publisher. And the publisher found a professional illustrator to do the art work and together they worked through some adjustments to get to the final version.

As Debbie grew older, the fuzz turned to feathers and she began to behave more like a duck than a dog. She discovered who she was.

Debbie's no longer with us, but Gaynor's follow through has preserved her story forever.

"Debbie the Duck," is available on 140 different web sites, including Amazon.com and her own site.
