SAND SPRINGS, OK -- Five hundred customers of Tulsa County Rural Water District No. 1 are now Sand Springs water customers.

The Sand Springs City Council approved acquisition of the district at its Monday meeting.

Back in February, the district's members approved transferring its assets to Sand Springs by a 97 percent vote margin.

Sand Springs water crews assumed maintenance responsibilities effective Tuesday.

Created in 1964, the water district is bordered by 129th West Avenue to the east, 177th West Avenue to the west, 41st Street to the south and the Arkansas River to the north.

Sand Springs has provided treated water to the water district since its incorporation and has also provided meter reading and billing services.

Water district customers will see only slight changes in their water bills, according to information provided by the water district.

The minimum monthly bill for up to 3,000 gallons of water used will decrease from the Rural Water District #1's charge of $20 to the City's charge of $18. Customers using 6,000 gallons of water monthly will see their bill drop from $46.25 to $45.69.

Sand Springs currently serves around 11,500 water customers.
