PAYNE COUNTY -- A Drumright man, who Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say had been drinking alcohol, was injured when the horse he was riding was struck by a car just before midnight Saturday.
The accident happened at 11:56 p.m. just outside Cushing on a two-lane asphalt road.
According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Michael Gene Burke, 32, was riding his horse southbound on Norfolk Road about three miles northeast of Cushing in Payne County.
The horse was struck by a 2002 GMC driven by Zachary J. Hebensterger, 18, of Cushing. Hebensterger was also southbound on Norfolk Road.
Burke was transported by Cushing Fire and Rescue to Cushing Hospital where he was admitted in stable condition with internal and leg injuries. The trooper's report notes that the cause of the accident was animal/pedestrian in the roadway and that Burke was impaired by drinking alcohol.
Hebensterger was not injured. There was no word on the condition of the horse.
