SPERRY, OK – Thieves broke into the Sperry Christian Church sometime on Thursday, doing damage and stealing hundreds of dollars.

A Boy Scout group that meets at the church made the discovery just before 7 p.m. Thursday.

Minister Adam Stang says the thieves came in through the roof of the church. Stang says they went through the building and kicked in several doors. They also spray painted "666" on one wall.  But it didn't stop there.

Stang says the thieves stole $500 to $600 from the church office. He says children in the youth group went on a 30-hour fast to raise money to help feed children in Africa.  They raised about $1,000.

"The most important thing for us right now is that money for the 30 hour famine," Stang said. "We wanted to do the best we could and those kids had raised that money to try and feed those kids in Africa and now most of that money is gone."

The thieves also stole computers.

Still, Stang believes God will turn a bad situation into something great.

"Somebody's going to get a great blessing, great joy, out of this, because that's the way God works," he said. "The next step for us is to give glory to God. Every crisis is an opportunity."

Stang tells the News On 6 the Sperry Police Department is investigating.
